over the rhine

i'd consider them a cross between vonda shepard and nora jones. their music is laden heavily with soul, real and pure. it's the kind of sound that i can imagine being played in a bar, some hole in the wall where it's a little dark and there exists a slight haze of smoke in the air. i don't think the bar is much populated and happy hour's just about over. over the rhine's sound has that familiar understanding that real good blues has. it's not depressing but a good quiet, soft heart kind of feeling. it wouldn't be out of the ordinary to see one with a tear in his or her eye. and conversely, it wouldn't either be out of the ordinary to see that person with a smile of agreeance on their face.

all in all - good stuff. it's nothing that i could listen to while cycling trying to be energized though. it has its proper place for the right time and mood setting, that's for sure. i'd suggest lending an ear or two to it. cheers . . ..
