today's quote:

there are painters who transform the sun to a yellow spot, but there are others who, with the help of their art and their intelligence, transform a yellow spot into the sun.

right turns at red lights rant

[rant]this is an aggravation of mine. too many people approach a red light and stop their car, blinker on, and wait 'till it's green. meanwhile, cars are lining up behind. i'm not upset because i'm in a hurry and may now run late. but rather, because they are just plain stupid. you can take a right turn on that red light you so dearly love to look at UNLESS OTHERWISE POSTED! i think the real issue here is that the driver thinks they are following the rules, minding the p's and q's, being a good boyscout... if you want to follow the rules, then you need to know what the rules are, especially when it comes to driving. otherwise, you're just another hindrance to worry about. cheers . . ..[/rant]

smokin' aces movie review

diddle diddle dumpling my friend john and i went to see smokin' aces this afternoon. i really liked the excitement in it. there were many stories going on at the same time within this one, much like lock, stock, and two smoking barrels and snatch. through all the twists and turns, i kept interested. not once could i find a place in the movie where i'd consider going to the bathroom. even if i had to go realllllllly bad. oh yes, lots of action too. shoot 'em up. bang. bang. it was worth the money. the popcorn, was not. cheers . . ..

today's quote:

the word itself, of which our works of art are fashioned, is the first art form, older than the roughest shaping of clay or stone. a word is the carving and colouring of thought, and gives to it permanence.

a great site for portrait photography

http://www.portrait-photos.org i found this site jumping from blog to blog randomly. the quality of work is very good. i especially like the portraits of children and of the regular joes. amazement, joy, and hope are all captured in the children's photos and a beautiful realness is captured so well in the regular joes' photos. i was put off with one thing however. and that was the glamour portraits. i don't really like looking at them because i'm bombarded by them throughout the day. but to their credit, i can see the beauty that is trying to be portrayed. perhaps the biggest draw for me to this site is the magnitude at which the beauty is portrayed in the portraits? there's some really good stuff there. do have a look. cheers . . ..
